Thai Tourism Authority Draws Up Blueprint For Tourism Revival During Covid Times

It’s common knowledge that Covid-19 has taken a terrible toll on tourism economies worldwide and now the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has drawn up a plan how to get back on track after the pandemic hopefully flattens out.

Thailand has been working on a range of Tourism related proposals in the last year or so and their directions change constantly.

Marriott Must Close Its Only Hotel in Cuba By August 31, 2020

Marriott made a deal back in 2016 to open three hotels in Cuba (read more here), of which only one came into fruition; Four Points Havana. The other two conversions never took place.

Now, the US Government has decided not to extend Marriott’s license to conduct business in Cuba and has told to the hotel company to end a relationship with its only hotel in Havana by August 31, 2020.

Qatar Airways Privilege Club Removes Award Segment Fees

Qatar Airways introduced award segment fees to Privilege Club redemptions (read more here) during its award massacre back in 2018.

Privilege Club members redeeming Qatar miles were required to pay $25 for every economy class, $50 for each business class, and $75 for every first-class segment.

UPDATE: Marriott Suspends Brand Standards & Elite Benefit Guarantees Through July 5, 2020

Marriott commented on a March call or news release that brand standards that properties are required to adhere, and could be fined if not, have been suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic.

A LoyaltyLobby reader sent us a question March too (read more here) about a walk situation at Marriott property and a reply that he had received from Marriott’s customer service. We have confirmed with Marriott that these loyalty guarantees are waived through July 5, 2020.

Hilton Updates Global Travel Waiver & Refund For Arrivals & Reservations Through August 31, 2020

Hilton has expanded its global travel waiver that is now valid through and reservations made by August 31, 2020 (was going to expire on June 30), due to the on-going coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Cancellations fees are waived, and any prepayments refunded as long as you cancel your stay minimum 24 hours before your intended stay even past August 31, 2020, if you book them by that date.

Today’s Airfare of the Day goes to Vietnam Airlines and their business class excursion round trip fares between Singapore (SIN) and Europe. This fare is also available to London and Paris.

Accor Reservation Cancellation Covid-19 Policy Update (June 3, 2020)

Accor has updated (again) its coronavirus cancellation policy as of Wednesday (June 3, 2020).

Accor’s Global Policy, with many exceptions, is valid for stays through June 30, 2020. The rules for cancellations, refunds, credits, vouchers, and what else are very complicated and country/region-specific.

Lufthansa Reopens Lounge Services As “One Class” At Both Frankfurt & Munich Airport

Lufthansa has began to offer a very basic lounge service again at both Frankfurt and Munich Airport with one single lounge for all customers regardless of their status level.

Apart from the location challenges there is also very limited catering which – according to a Lufthansa email – consists of only water and “small snacks”.

EU Commission Wants All Internal Borders Open By June 30, 2020

EU Commission has indicated to member states that they would like to see all internal travel restrictions lifted by June 30, 2020.

Home Affairs commissioner will today propose abolishing all internal border checks within Schengen that were introduced when Covid-19 was quickly spreading among member countries.

Marriott Updates COVID-19 Cancellation Policy (June 4, 2020)

Marriott has updated its coronavirus (COVID-19) reservation policies as of June 3, 2020 (didn’t push the update to the website until yesterday), that waives all cancellation fees and refunds prepayments.

The update that was instituted yesterday deals with extending the waiver from June 30 to July 5, 2020 (covers the 4th of July holiday).
